i phoned in lazy to easter, and spent the day on the couch cuddling my dog, watching lousy horror movies on netflix, eating stale tony’s donuts, and lapsing in and out of consciousness.
as a person who normally shuns sleep, and tends to work until she passes out on the couch on a nightly basis… i don’t give myself a lot of lazy do-nothing days. actually, i don’t give myself any.
i have to say that the IKEAbus could definitely be classified as a success. nobody yelled at me, or asked for their money back, no fist fights broke out, and nothing burst into flames or turned into radioactive ooze.
oh, and everything fit into the truck. even though it was pouring rain, and i failed to work into my spatial calculation the fact that most people lose their minds temporarily at IKEA and wind up buying 2-3 times more than they planned- just because everything is so freakin’ awesome and so freakin’ cheap. (possibly even a $49 armoire so heavy that no mere mortal can lift it… ahem jj)
anyway, it was really amazing. i made new friends (hi beth! hi gennyfer- sorry i’ve been checking out your husband on my way to work. i didn’t know!). i bought a new bathroom cabinet. i ate some sort of amazing broccoli cakes and deeply regret not buying some to hoard in my freezer.
but amazingness aside, there were 2 very important things that i didn’t do:
1. TAKE PHOTOS! i really should have hired a professional photographer for the day, because i completely disregarded the fact that i would be so fucking busy that i wouldn’t have time to pause and snap some pics. i may have taken a funny picture of my lingonberry juice box, but nothing with actual people or furniture in it. so if you rode the IKEAbus, and took pictures- please send them to me! i’m desperate!
2. SLEEP. the night before i was packing snack boxes and attempting to work out final logistical details. i might have blacked out on the couch for an hour or two, but it would be totally reasonable to state that i stayed up all night. add that with a day of running around in the rain and sadly trying to lift heavy things before declaring “muppet arms” and letting our fearless truck driver scout (my IKEAbus guardian angel) do the work… made me more exhausted than i have ever been in my entire life.
so today, i slept. and slept. and slept. instead of doing laundry, or packing my lunches for the week, or finally filing all that paperwork that has been building up in my office.
anyhow, i’m sorry that i don’t have a properly documented and comprehensive post about ikeabus happenings with lots of pretty photos. but what i’m not sorry for is is finally giving myself a chance to rest.
Aww, sounds like it was a great time. The broccoli cakes look delicious. I will be sure to be on the next bus!
the broccoli cakes were surprisingly amazing. i regret not stocking up! hopefully we will have a chance to meet someday, i’m very likely going to run the ikea bus again in the fall or spring!
Success! You deserve every bit of couch and slumber you got yesterday — congratulations on such a hit! 🙂
muppet arms?! My family calls mine spaghetti arms. I’m weak. You deserve a day of rest!
yes!
Wowzers, that was a fab trip! Thanks for not only working hard but putting your heart and soul into IKEA Bus. It was a true humanitarian effort. I really enjoyed the local fare provided – no better way to start the day than Tony’s and CBD!
you’re very welcome! i would hardly classify it as a humanitarian effort, but it was certainly a kick ass time (aside from the weather). can i just tell you that i ate nothing but leftover donuts the next day? i kept going into the kitchen to get real food… and there they were. tony is a dangerous man indeed.
Ok, I guess I can forgive you for not getting a group shot! Congratulations though, it sounds like it was a success. I can only hope that this might become a semi annual event…hint, hint. 🙂
i’m hoping to at least do it again next spring. i’m hoping i can scam some pictures from a few of the riders, but all i have is a picture of my lunch and a picture of the back of everyone’s heads watching “logan’s run”! although a group shot would have been tough in the heinous weather. it was RAINING SIDEWAYS!
You did a fantastic job, I went and had a blast. You were organized, detail oriented and creative. My kids are now making fun of the IKEA BUS sticker on my car:)
your kids are just jealous that they didn’t get to go to ikea. thank you so much for coming! despite the miserable weather, it really was a magical day.
As an Ikeabus rider, I can say it was freakin awesome! I am surrounded by bookcases with glass doors, all my crap hidden away…secret crap 🙂
i still need to see pictures of the final product ms. cindy. also, documentation of any furniture building related injuries.
oh dear lord, i have no idea how i’m going to move that wardrobe, and scout might’ve busted a bone in his foot, but we’re happy. 50% off easter candy made everything better.
thank you for an awesome day.
you and scout made that day so much better than it would have been otherwise. i owe you both more than i can afford to give. do you accept undying love? p.s. thank you for the amazeballs cupcakes.
we absolutely accept undying love. especially in the form of movie nights and nachos.
you are amazeballs. i don’t know how you handle it all with such amazeballness. (new favorite word)
thanks laura. you’re amazeballs too. actually, saying amazeballs is amazeballs.
